Pressure washer accessories, the parts between the pump and the surface, decide more about how a machine performs than the pump does. A worn nozzle costs you pressure. An undersized fitting chokes flow. The wrong O-ring turns a good coupler into a leak. None of it is expensive and all of it is the difference between a rig that holds its rating and one that does not. Understanding pressure washer accessories is crucial for optimal machine performance.
This page is the index. Each section says what the part does and what decides which one you need, and links to the full write-up where there is one. Explore various pressure washer accessories to enhance your cleaning tasks.

Getting water into the pump
More pump failures start here than anywhere else, because a starved inlet produces symptoms that look exactly like a worn pump. Using compatible pressure washer accessories can help prevent these issues.
- In-line water filters. Grit scores plungers and holds check valves off their seats. Match the mesh to your water, not to the ambition, and clean it before every shift. A neglected filter causes the same damage as no filter. Regularly check your pressure washer accessories for optimal function.
- Connections/”>Garden hose adapters. Garden hose thread, NPT and M22 all look similar and none seal against each other. A weep on the suction side draws air rather than leaking water, so there is nothing visible to find. Proper garden hose adapters are key pressure washer accessories.
Controlling pressure
- Unloaders. When the trigger closes, the unloader sends flow to bypass instead of deadheading the pump. Size it to the pump’s flow. An unloader matched to the wrong flow is the commonest reason a build never reaches its rated pressure, and nothing appears broken. Check your pressure washer accessories regularly.
- Regulators. Not the same device. An unloader reacts to the trigger; a regulator holds a setpoint continuously. On a system where tools and hose lengths change through the day, the regulator is what keeps pressure where you set it. Understanding your pressure washer accessories can improve pressure management.
- High-flow unloaders. Past a certain flow, the valve’s own ports become the restriction. On a facility system, 1 in ports throughout including the bypass are what make it work. Pay attention to which pressure washer accessories support high-flow unloaders.
- Thermal relief valves. An unloader protects against pressure and does nothing about temperature. Water sitting in bypass heats up regardless, which is why a machine that idles needs one. Using thermal relief valves as part of your pressure washer accessories is essential.
Connections
- Quick couplings and plugs. Thread standard, pressure rating, material. Watch the M22 nipple size: 14 mm and 15 mm thread together and do not seal, which presents as a slow weep nobody can trace. Choosing the right quick couplings is among the most important pressure washer accessories.
- O-rings. When a connection drips, the coupler is almost never the problem. Buna for cold water, Viton for heat and chemicals. Treat them as consumables and replace on a schedule. Remember that O-rings are vital pressure washer accessories.
- Brass or stainless. The question is what is in your water, not which is better. And do not mix the two in salt service, because the brass corrodes preferentially. Make sure to choose suitable materials when selecting pressure washer accessories.
- Swivels and pivot couplers. The accessory that makes the biggest difference to an operator’s day because it removes the hose twist that otherwise builds all morning. Swivels are among the most recommended pressure washer accessories.
Spray hardware
- Turbo and rotating nozzles. Zero-degree impact spread across a cone. The number in the part name is the orifice, and it has to match your flow, which is the spec people skip. The RotoJet range covers 3,700 to 7,250 PSI. Selecting the appropriate nozzles is one of the key aspects of pressure washer accessories.
- Surface cleaners. Width only helps if your pump has the flow to spin the head at working speed. A 20 in cleaner on a 3 GPM machine makes you slower, not faster. Ensure your surface cleaners are suitable pressure washer accessories.
- Water brooms. A different tool from a surface cleaner. If the dirt is loose, a broom is faster and uses less water. If it is bonded, a broom just moves it around. Water brooms can be excellent pressure washer accessories.
- Standard nozzles. The orifice, not the pump, sets system pressure. Worn tips pass more water at lower pressure, so the machine fades gradually and the pump gets blamed. Regular maintenance of standard nozzles is crucial among your pressure washer accessories.
Sewer and drain work
- Sewer nozzles. Every jetting nozzle splits water between rear jets for thrust and forward jets for cutting. That split is the specification that matters and the one least often stated. Sewer nozzles are essential pressure washer accessories for drain work.
- Pulsation valves. A jetter valve turns a pressure washer into a jetter. They are pump-family specific, so check yours before ordering. Pulsation valves are also valuable pressure washer accessories.
- Foot valves. Hands-free control, so the operator never has to let go of the hose to stop the water. Foot valves can be effective pressure washer accessories for ease of use.
Drive and power
- Belts, gearboxes, clutches and couplings. How you drive the pump decides noise, fuel burn, seal life and footprint. The constraint people miss is that motor speed has to match the pump’s rated RPM, and no coupling fixes a mismatch. Choosing the right drive components is part of selecting pressure washer accessories.
- Electric clutches. A 12 V clutch disengages the pump until the trigger is pulled. On a crew moving between properties, the pump might be working less than half the shift. Electric clutches can be useful pressure washer accessories for efficiency.
Hot water systems
- Thermostats. Set the cutoff by the weakest component in the system, not by the hottest number you would like to reach. A 250°F cutoff does not protect a pump rated to 185°F. Ensuring you have proper thermostats is part of effective pressure washer accessories.
- Hot-water rated everything else. Hose, swivel and the quick connect at the lance. Those are the three people forget. Use hot-water rated pressure washer accessories to ensure safety and performance.
Water handling
- Hose reels. Size by hose length and pressure, and pay attention to the swivel. On a reel it rotates continuously under pressure rather than occasionally, which is why it is the most common leak point on a wash rig. Proper hose reels enhance the utility of your pressure washer accessories.
- Hose. Keep the internal diameter up. Undersized line chokes flow, and a 4 GPM pump behind a narrow hose is a 3 GPM machine. Using the right hose is critical among your pressure washer accessories.
Fluids and service
- Pump oil and pump saver. Pump oil is non-detergent for a reason: you want water to separate out where you can see it rather than emulsify invisibly. And pump saver before any freeze, because a cracked head is not repairable. Choosing the right fluids is an important aspect of pressure washer accessories.
- Seal and valve kits. Keep the ones for your machine on the shelf. The reason people run a pump past a failing seal is that the kit is three days away. Having seal and valve kits as part of your pressure washer accessories can save you time and money.
Four pressure washer accessories rules that cover most of it
- Every accessory must meet or exceed the pump’s rating. The weakest component sets the system’s real ceiling, and at high pressure it is a safety matter rather than a performance one. Choose pressure washer accessories that align with your pump’s specifications.
- Do not choke the flow. Maintain internal diameter through hose and fittings. This is the most common self-inflicted performance problem. Proper pressure washer accessories help maintain optimal flow.
- Match materials through the whole wetted path. Mixing brass into a stainless system in salt service wastes the stainless. Ensure your pressure washer accessories are compatible.
- Verify the thread standard before you force anything. NPT, BSP, M22 and garden hose thread are four different things. Confirming thread standards is vital for your pressure washer accessories.
