SHP Series by Annovi Reverberi: Built for Extreme Pressure

Seven thousand two hundred fifty PSI is 500 bar. At that pressure water stops behaving like a cleaning agent and starts behaving like a cutting tool. The SHP series is AR’s line for that end of the range, and the first thing worth saying about it is that most people do not need it.

If you are washing trucks, cleaning floors or doing general industrial washdown, an SHP is the wrong pump. It only moves 4 to 5.8 gallons a minute, so a large-area job takes forever, and the pressure will destroy most surfaces you aim it at. Buy an RTX instead.

What the SHP is for is the work where nothing else touches it: coating and paint removal, hydro-demolition, hardened scale, concrete surface preparation, and industrial deposits that survive chemical treatment.

The SHP Series lineup

Model GPM PSI RPM Approx. BHP
SHP1550HN 4.0 7,250 1450 20
SHP2050HN 5.3 7,250 1450 26
SHP2250HN 5.8 7,250 1450 29

The related SHPA series sits alongside it. The SHPA4G70HN runs 4 GPM at 7,000 PSI, and the SXWA4G50N-CR gives you 4 GPM at 5,100 PSI in a corrosion-resistant build at 1750 RPM.

BHP figures above are GPM × PSI ÷ 1460. Size the motor 10 to 20 percent higher.

The head design, and why it matters

The SHP is the evolution of AR’s RG series, and the substantive change is in the head: the intake valves sit directly above the plungers.

That is not styling. The limiting factor on a high pressure plunger pump is not how hard it can push, it is whether the chamber fills completely on the intake stroke. If it does not, you get cavitation, which is vapor bubbles collapsing against metal and ceramic. Cavitation is what actually destroys high pressure pumps, usually long before anything wears out. Putting the intake valve directly over the plunger shortens and straightens the fill path, so the chamber fills at speed, so the pump can make 500 bar without eating itself.

This is also why inlet conditions matter more on an SHP than on a lower pressure pump. Undersized supply line, a partly blocked filter, or a lift instead of a flooded suction will cavitate this pump in a way it would not cavitate an RTX.

How SHP pumps are built

  • High-strength steel crankshaft on oversized tapered roller bearings. At 7,250 PSI the rod loads are large and constant.
  • Low-friction alloy connecting rods. Friction becomes heat, heat becomes wear, and a pump running continuously at 500 bar generates plenty of both.
  • One-piece ceramic plungers. Solid, not coated.
  • Anodized die-cast aluminum body and side covers. Keeps the weight manageable.
  • Double gasket sealing system. Two seals in series with a drain between them, so a primary seal failure leaks out rather than into the oil.
  • Reinforced valve components. Valves are the highest-cycle wear item on any plunger pump and the load scales with pressure.

Before you buy one

Three practical points that do not show up on the spec sheet.

Everything downstream has to be rated for it. Hose, gun, lance, fittings, unloader, relief valve. A 4,000 PSI hose on a 7,250 PSI pump is a serious hazard, not a temporary compromise. Price the whole assembly, not just the pump.

Water at 500 bar injures people badly. High pressure injection injuries do not look severe at the entry point and are frequently underestimated in the first hour. Anyone operating this equipment needs proper training, proper PPE, and to know that any skin penetration is an emergency room visit, immediately, not a wait-and-see.

Your inlet supply has to keep up. Starving the pump is the fastest way to destroy it. Flooded suction, adequate line size, and a clean filter you actually check.

Where it sits in the line

SHP is the pressure end. RTD is the volume end at up to 52.8 GPM. RTX covers the middle. We have a full comparison of all three if you are working out which one your job needs.
