Overview

The PS6040 is a heavy-duty brass pressure switch from
Annovi Reverberi (AR North America) designed to control and protect
hot-water and high-pressure pressure washer systems. Rated
to a maximum system pressure of 4,060 PSI and configured
with a 3/8″ male connection, this switch senses
discharge pressure and changes the state of an internal micro-switch at a
high activation point of approximately 652 PSI. In practical
terms, the PS6040 is ideal for 4.5 GPM-class hot-water rigs, trailer skids,
and industrial washers where the burner or heating circuit must only fire
after the system is truly up to operating pressure and flow.

  • High-pressure brass pressure switch for professional hot-water systems.
  • Max system rating: 4,060 PSI to cover most commercial pressure washers.
  • Activation threshold: approx. 652 PSI for “fully up to pressure” confirmation.
  • Hydraulic connection: 3/8″ M process port for easy installation.
  • Sized for higher-output, 4.5 GPM-class hot-water and industrial wash equipment.

How the PS6040 Works

The PS6040 is installed in the high-pressure discharge line, typically after
the pump and unloader. Inside the brass body, a pressure-sensitive diaphragm
monitors line pressure. As the operator pulls the trigger and water begins
flowing through the coil or wash circuit, system pressure rises. When it
reaches the activation point (around 652 PSI), the diaphragm deflects and
actuates the internal micro-switch, changing the electrical contact state.
That change is used as a demand signal for the burner, fuel solenoid, or
control relay. When the gun is released and pressure drops below the set
threshold, the diaphragm returns to its rest position, the switch resets, and
the burner is shut down while water returns to bypass.

Typical operating sequence

  • Trigger pulled (demand ON): pressure climbs above 652 PSI, the switch trips, and the burner or heating circuit is enabled.
  • Trigger released (demand OFF): pressure falls, the switch releases, and the burner is de-energized while flow returns to bypass.
  • Automatic reset: the PS6040 tracks pressure automatically on every start/stop cycle—no manual reset required.

Construction and Ratings

Built to withstand the demands of commercial and industrial cleaning
equipment, the PS6040 combines a robust brass hydraulic body with a
pressure-rated diaphragm and industrial micro-switch assembly. The design
tolerates frequent cycling, vibration, and elevated temperatures commonly
found on hot-water rigs and trailer-mounted washers. Electrical ratings
match typical burner and control loads used in professional pressure washer
systems, allowing simple, direct integration into OEM harnesses.

  • Body material: corrosion-resistant brass for long service life.
  • Max pressure rating: 4,060 PSI (280 bar) system pressure.
  • Activation pressure: approx. 652 PSI for confident demand detection.
  • Max fluid temperature: typically up to about 167°F (75°C) in hot-water applications.
  • Electrical rating: usually up to 250 V AC, 16 A for burner controls and relay coils.
  • Cable length: integrated lead (around 45″) for flexible mounting in cabinets and skids.

Design advantages

  • High activation point helps ensure adequate flow and pressure through the heating coil before firing.
  • Mechanical diaphragm and micro-switch design—no electronics or software to configure.
  • Compact 3/8″ M connection allows mounting close to the pump or coil outlet with minimal extra fittings.
  • Standard two- or three-conductor wiring simplifies hookup to existing safety chains.

Role in Hot-Water System Control

AR brass pressure switches like the PS6040 are commonly used to
“balance” hot-water systems. When the operator demands hot
water, the pressure switch senses that the system is up to pressure and
signals the burner or heating circuit to engage. When flow stops, the switch
changes state, the burner is disabled, and water circulates through the
bypass loop instead. This sequencing helps protect coils from overheating,
minimizes fuel waste, and extends the life of pumps, seals, and hoses by
ensuring heat is only applied under proper load.

  • Coordinates burner firing with both pressure and flow, not just pump running status.
  • Prevents coil “dry firing” when there is insufficient water moving through the system.
  • Reduces fuel consumption by disabling the burner in low- or no-demand conditions.
  • Works alongside flow switches, thermostats, and high-limit safeties for layered protection.

Integration examples

  • Wired in series with a flow switch and thermostat to form a comprehensive burner interlock circuit.
  • Used as the primary demand signal for electronic burner controllers or relay logic modules.
  • Installed near the coil outlet to monitor actual heated-line pressure on hot-water trailers and skids.

Typical Applications

With its 4,060 PSI rating, 3/8″ male connection, and high 652 PSI activation
point, the PS6040 is especially well suited to larger, higher-output hot-water
systems and professional wash rigs. OEMs and service centers specify this
model when they need robust, repeatable burner control and coil protection in
demanding environments.

  • Hot-water pressure washers – higher-pressure trailer rigs, skids, cabinet units.
  • Fleet and truck wash systems – tractors, trailers, refuse trucks, and heavy equipment.
  • Industrial maintenance washers – degreasing stations, machinery wash bays, and plant maintenance rigs.
  • Sanitation and facility cleaning – food, beverage, and industrial facilities requiring reliable hot water.
  • OEM pressure washer builds – custom hot-water packages where coil protection and safe burner control are priorities.
