If a truck already carries hydraulics, driving the pump off that circuit removes a whole system. No second engine, no second fuel tank, no second thing to service, and no belt drive to align. The RT series is AR’s hydraulic-drive line, and it covers a range most people do not realise is one family: 7.9 GPM at 8,700 PSI at one end, 40 GPM at 1,500 PSI at the other.

There is a second half of the family worth knowing about. The HYD-RTX and HYD-RTD configurations cover the middle ground, roughly 12 to 40 GPM at 1,850 to 2,900 PSI, for jobs that need more volume than the RTP line and more pressure than the RTF line.

Read both sides of the spec

This is the part that catches people. Every RT model has a water rating and a hydraulic rating, and your truck has to satisfy the hydraulic one before the water one means anything.

The RTP models want 23.5 L/min at around 3,300 to 4,100 PSI. The RTF models want 70.5 L/min, three times the flow. If your circuit puts out 25 L/min, an RTF150N will turn slowly and deliver nowhere near 40 GPM, and nothing is broken. It is simply not being fed.

Check your hydraulic circuit’s available flow and pressure at working temperature, not the pump’s nameplate, before choosing a model.

How RT hydraulic drive pumps are built

• Head: nickel-plated brass, for corrosion resistance against hard water and detergent
• Connecting rods: bronze, which holds up under load and heat where aluminium does not
• Crankcase: oversized oil capacity, because these run continuously and the oil is doing the cooling
• Speed: 1,000 RPM standard, 800 RPM on the high-displacement models
• Ports: 1 in F inlet, 1/2 in F outlet
• Drive: Sauer Danfoss hydraulic gear motor

The low speed is deliberate and it is why these last. A pump turning 1,000 RPM does under a third the cycles per hour of a direct-drive gas pump at 3,400.

What 8,700 PSI actually means

The HYD-RTP30.60N is the pressure ceiling of the range. One thing to know before you cross-check it against the catalog: the bare RTP30.60N pump is rated 9,000 PSI and this hydraulic kit is rated 8,700. That is not a contradiction. 8,700 is the derate that comes with driving it off a hydraulic motor, so quote the figure that matches what you are actually buying. At either number, water removes coating, scale and surface concrete. Every component downstream has to be rated for it with margin, and the operator needs training specific to ultra high pressure. Treat it as a different category of machine rather than a stronger pressure washer.

Where RT hydraulic drive pumps are used

• Hydrostatic testing: pipelines, vessels and refinery equipment need controlled, repeatable pressure to spec. The RTP models hold a setpoint rather than chasing it.
• Oil and gas: wellhead cleaning and drill support, where the equipment is already hydraulic and the environment is corrosive.
• Municipal jetting: the RTJ70 at 18.5 GPM and 4,000 PSI is the sewer truck configuration.
• Industrial cleaning: tank cleaning, descaling, and heavy equipment washdown in mills and chemical plants.
• Mining: dust suppression and washdown, where abrasion and load cycles kill lighter pumps.

Servicing RT hydraulic drive pumps

• Check crankcase oil level regularly. It is doing the cooling as much as the lubricating.
• Monitor hydraulic flow and pressure. Running the motor outside its window overheats the circuit before it damages the pump.
• Replace seals, pistons and valves on hours rather than on failure.
• Inspect the mounting and coupler. Vibration damage starts at the coupling and moves outward.
• Filter the supply water, especially on mining and municipal work where the water is never clean.

These are rebuildable, which is the whole economic argument for buying one. Send your hydraulic circuit’s flow and pressure along with the water output you need, and you will get a model that your truck can actually drive.
