The SXW series gives you 5,000 PSI at 1,450 RPM. The SXWA Series gives you the same pressure at 1,750 RPM, which buys more flow out of the same frame: up to 7 GPM instead of 5.5.
That is the whole distinction, and it decides which one you want. If you are removing coating from a spot, pressure does the work. If you are covering a truck, a hull or a factory floor, flow does.
The SXWA Series range
| Model | Flow | Pressure | EBHP | Motor |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SXWA4G50N | 4.0 GPM | 5,100 PSI | 14.0 | 15 HP |
| SXWA55G50N | 5.5 GPM | 5,000 PSI | 18.8 | 20 HP |
| SXWA7G50N | 7.0 GPM | 5,000 PSI | 24.0 | 30 HP |
All three run on a 24 mm solid shaft with a brass head, ceramic plungers, aluminium rods and a 32 oz crankcase, around 35 lbs.
SXWA pump variants
- Hot water, rated 185°F: SXWA4G50NHT, SXWA55G50NHT, SXWA7G50NHT
- Left-hand shaft: SXWA55G50N-SX, SXWA7G50N-SX
- Corrosion resistant: SXWA4G50N-CR
Sizing a motor for SXWA pumps
EBHP is GPM times PSI divided by 1,460. The 7 GPM model needs 24 HP at the shaft, which with margin puts you on a 30 HP motor. That is a substantial three-phase installation, so confirm your service before choosing the model.
Note the shape of the table: going from 4 to 7 GPM at the same pressure nearly doubles the power required. Flow is expensive at 5,000 PSI.
SXW or SXWA
- SXWA, at 1,750 RPM, for more flow per frame and direct pairing with a two-pole motor.
- SXW, at 1,450 RPM, for longer seal life on continuous duty and quieter running.
If the machine runs all day, every day, the slower pump will cost less over its life. If it runs in bursts and space is tight, the SXWA does more with the same footprint.
What 5,000 PSI is for
- Fleet wash where the 7 GPM model cuts truck and bus cleaning time substantially
- Graffiti and coating removal on municipal and contractor jobs
- Heavy equipment degreasing in mining, oilfield and construction
- Steel and concrete surface prep before protective coatings
- Shipyard and marine work on salt and scale
- Large facility washdown in factories, food plants and chemical sites
Everything downstream has to carry the rating. Hose, gun, lance, swivel and every quick coupler. This is the pressure class where a 4,500 PSI fitting becomes a genuine hazard rather than a compromise.
Servicing SXWA pumps
Fully rebuildable with kits for valves, pistons, water seals, oil seals and piston guides, plus dedicated hot water seal sets for the HT builds. Ceramic plungers are what make this survivable at 5,000 PSI; they resist the abrasion that finishes steel plungers quickly at this load.
Filter the inlet and change the oil on schedule. At this pressure those two habits are most of the difference between a pump that lasts years and one that does not.
