How to Extend the Life of Your Triplex Pump

How to Extend the Life of Your Triplex Pump

Triplex pumps are the workhorses of industrial pressure washing. Whether you’re in construction, oilfield services, or mobile cleaning, maintaining your pump is essential to avoid downtime and costly repairs.

1. Follow Manufacturer’s Maintenance Intervals
Routine maintenance is your first line of defense. Change the oil every 200–250 hours (or as recommended by your pump manufacturer), inspect seals and valves regularly, and flush the pump if it has been sitting idle.

2. Use the Correct Oil and Parts
Never substitute generic motor oil or seals. Use pump-specific lubricants and OEM parts to maintain performance and warranty coverage.

3. Protect Against Cavitation
Cavitation—caused by water starvation—destroys pump internals. Always ensure a consistent, adequate water supply and keep inlet filters clean.

4. Run Bypass Minimally
Extended run times in bypass (trigger released) overheat water and damage seals. Avoid idling more than 2 minutes without water flow.

5. Store It Right
Drain water after use and use pump saver antifreeze solution if storing for the season. Protect against freezing and mineral buildup.
