- Verify face runout and coupling engagement depth and gap.

- Define required nozzle result and work backward to flow, pressure, and pump speed.
- Match motor displacement and hydraulic supply to target pump speed.
- RPM ≈ 231 × hydraulic GPM ÷ motor displacement (in³).
- Torque ≈ displacement (in³) × PSI ÷ 6.283.
- Hydraulic horsepower ≈ GPM × PSI ÷ 1714 with efficiency applied.
- Set upstream reliefs for duty pressure.
- Specify 10–25 micron return filtration with appropriate beta rating.
- Size reservoir at 2–3× total system flow.
- Add oil cooling for hot climates, prolonged bypass, or continuous duty.
- Include case drain when required and keep return plumbing unrestricted.
- Install adjustable unloader, high-pressure relief, glycerin-filled gauge, and thermal relief valve.
- Never overspeed the pump or run it dry.
